Melvin Knowles McMaster, Ed.D., age 85, a resident of Abington for 55 years and most recently of Briarleaf Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Doylestown died on May 15, 2016. He was the devoted husband of the late Patricia A. Thompson McMaster for 62 years until her death in 2012. Born in Philadelphia, Dr. McMaster was the son of the late Melvin K. McMaster, Sr. and the late Edith Wiedenmann Mc Master. He graduated from Central High School and earned his Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate Degrees from Temple University. His entire 40 year career in Education was with the School District of Philadelphia. He began his career as a teacher and retired, after 21 years, as Principal of Masterman High School. Under his leadership, the Masterman High School was rated as the #1 school in the city. Dr. McMaster served on the Abington School Board and was the President of the Board for some time. He is survived by his loving children and their spouses: Harriet and Dennis Walsh of Claremont, FL, M. William and Molly S. McMaster of Collegeville, PA and Scott K. and Jennifer McMaster of Ft. Washington, PA; by his dear-grandchildren; Kate Lepore and her husband, Louis, Brian McMaster, Dalton McMaster and Cooper McMaster and by his great-grandson, Samuel Lepore. Funeral service and interment in Forest Hills Cemetery will be private.
