Mary E. Behrens (nee Shoemaker) formerly of Gloria Dei Farms in Hatboro and Huntingdon Valley, died on Wednesday August 22, 2012. She was 91. She was the devoted wife of the late Theodore August Behrens. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Gregg L. and Helen Shoemaker. Mary graduated from Germantown High School in 1939 and graduated from Abington School of Nursing in 1942. Mary worked for 29 years as a registered nurse at Abington Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Abington and also the Abington Alumnae. She was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Church in Huntingdon Valley. Mary is survived by her sons and their spouses, Robert K. and Ann Behrens of North Wales and Richard W. and April A. Behrens of Furlong; by her grandchildren, Dean Behrens and his wife Circe, Mark Behrens, Jessica Behrens, Michelle Behrens and Nicole Behrens; and her great granddaughters, Nadya and Alexei. A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Friday August 31 at Baron Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Rd., Abington, where friends will be received from 11AM until the time of the service. Burial in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1200 Old York Rd., Abington, PA 19001.
