Marie Preisendanz Johnson (Grandma Marie), of Fortson, GA, passed away peacefully at home the evening of June 6, 2016. Marie was born in Philadelphia, PA, where she lived until she moved to Georgia in 2011 to be cared for by her family. She was born Marie Preisendanz to William Preisendanz and Mary (Anna) Durr on July 5, 1913. She was the oldest of 4 children. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth, Helen and William. Marie was wed to Henry Thomas Johnson on August 31, 1935, in Philadelphia. They were married 50 years until Henry's death in 1986. They had 2 children, Eileen Marie and Karen Ruth, who preceded Marie in death. Marie was very active in her church and was also a Girl Scout leader. She played the piano and enjoyed the music of Mario Lanza and Frank Sinatra. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan all her life. She enjoyed board games, pinochle and spending time at Wildwood, NJ every summer with her family. Marie is survived by her nephew, John MacMullen, of Conshohocken, PA; niece, Jane Hopefinger (Mick) of Columbia, IL; niece, Donna Schifino (Mauro) of Ardmore, PA; 4 grandchildren, Nancy Seifert, Joy Anderson (Scott), both of Fortson, GA; Andrea Johnson of Dresher, PA; Karen Crosby (Ben) of CT; 2 great-grandsons, James Seifert (Viktoria) and Jacob Anderson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lidia Seifert. Funeral services for Marie will be held at Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16, 2016. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment at Hillside Cemetery will follow the service. Please feel free to honor Marie by adorning Phillies apparel.
