Surrounded by family, Katherine Linton Eyre passed peacefully at her home of 14 years, Rydal Park in Jenkintown On October 4, 2014. Formerly of Fox Chase Manor in Abington Township and the Tacony section of Philadelphia, Kay was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert A. Eyre; her parents, Abigail Taughenbaugh and The Reverend Dr. Josiah Marshall Linton; and her siblings, Jean Herbert, Robert Linton and Josiah Linton. Born in 1925, Kay earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wilson College and Master of Social Work from Bryn Mawr College. She served the poor, mentally ill and elderly for many years as a social worker with various agencies in the Philadelphia area, serving many of those years through Abington Memorial Hospital's Mental Health Center and Geriatric Outreach Program, and as organizer and director of Abington's Tele-Help Crisis Hotline. Kay was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown, where she was active in mission outreach and service programs in Philadelphia, Jenkintown and Abington. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Ritchey (James) of Succasunna, NJ, Robert B. Eyre (Jenifer) of Glenside, PA, and John M. Eyre (Michele) of Jenkintown, PA; eight grandchildren, Lawrence Reilly (Laura), Colleen Meehan (Robert) , John Robert Eyre, Karlyn Eyre, David Ritchey, Sarah Ritchey, Joanna Eyre and Benjamin Eyre; and six great grandchildren. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 444 Old York Road (at Vista Road), Jenkintown, PA 19046. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, marked for "Grace Place"(an outreach and fellowship program for older adults in the community) or to the "Wilson Fund" at Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
