Helen Mary Stika Porter, 98, of Philadelphia, died peacefully on Saturday, July 8, at the Philadelphia Protestant Home. She was born on July 31, 1924, the youngest child of the late John and Antonie Stika. Three brothers, John, George, and Joseph as well as her husband, Samuel, and son, William, proceeded her in death.

Helen graduated from Kensington High School for Girls in 1941. After graduation, she worked for a law firm in Philadelphia. In 1946, Helen married Samuel J. Porter and they were married for 58 years until his death in 2004.

Helen is survived by her children, Gale P. McCarty (Ralph) and Joseph T. Porter (Terri), as well as her four grandchildren, Joshua McCarty (Bethany), Lucas McCarty (Katie), Krystin Conlan (Brian), and Ashley Shaw (Matt). Helen also has eight great grandchildren Samuel McCarty, Winifred McCarty, Addison McCarty, Finnley McCarty, Cole Conlan, Andrew Conlan, Jacob Shaw, and Ella Shaw. Her sister-in-law, Joanne Porter, along with many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Helen was very active, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and assisting in the canteen at Jeanes Hospital. After her move to the Philadelphia Protestant Home, she remained an active volunteer in that PPH Senior community for 15 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

All are welcome to join Helen's family at a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 5 at Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, PA. 19001 from 10:00 AM until the memorial service at 11:30 AM.
