Dorothy "Duff" Nehrling Higgins, age 82, a resident of Shannondell at Valley Forge and formerly of Abington, died on January 8, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Warren P. Higgins, Sr. for over 58-years. Born in Richmond, Indiana and raised in Needham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Arno Nehrling and the late Irene Dahlberg Nehrling. Duff graduated from Needham High School and, in 1952, from Swarthmore College. Duff was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. She was an active volunteer having served on the Board of the Jenkintown Day Nursery, including a term as President as well as the Board of the Abington Hospital Women's Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses; Pam and her husband, John Mullin and Warren P. Higgins, Jr. and his wife Diane DiBonaventuro Higgins and by her three grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 14, 2013, Baron Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Jenkintown Day Nursery, Hilltop and Baeder Roads, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
