Meriel Bush Shaffer, age 82, of Rydal Park and formerly of Meadowbrook, died on June 15, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Fred W. Shaffer. She is also survived by her adoring children; Sally Hunnicutt, Polly Shaffer, and Gene Shaffer; her loving son-in-law, Mike Hunnicutt; and her dear grandchildren, Patrick and Nathan Hunnicutt and Jessica and Elizabeth Shaffer. Meriel was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother. She was an active church-goer all her life and volunteered her time with Art Goes to School, Abington Memorial Hospital, and the League of Women Voters. Beyond her family, her greatest enjoyment came from the many trips she took throughout the United States and abroad with her family and with friends from the Rohm and Haas Company and elsewhere. She also had a passion for reading, needlepointing, the paintings of Jan Vermeer, the Phillies, and Duke Basketball. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road in Abington.
